New Forest & Millichope Educational Days

For the first time the Educational Trust Roadshow paid a visit to the New Forest Schools Day at the Showground, New Park, Brockenhurst. The event attracted over 400 schoolchildren and their teachers who were all allocated time slots to spend with each exhibitor. This is good organisation and gave the Trust staff quality time with each group to discuss the role of a responsible gamekeeper in the countryside and resulted in a very worthwhile day for all, unfortunately there are no photographs of the day.

The Roadshow then went to an Estate day in Shropshire at Millichope Estate and organised by the Countryside Foundation for Education. Again it was a structured day with set time slots to present our display to groups of children and their teachers. This was different though in that whilst we got time to talk about the role of the keeper we went on to give everyone a ‘Taste of Game’ thanks to the generosity of Wayne Tuffin from Willo Game and a local deli.

Most of the children and some of the teachers had never tried game to eat but almost thought it was delicious, in fact we were almost down to our last sausage by the time the day was over. Teachers were given a recipe book each to take away and with the delicious recipes available there I think they will be eating game again in the future.
