Woodcock Watch Partnership Extended

Woodcock Watch is a satellite tracking programme that was established by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, to monitor the migration habits of the iconic Woodcock bird.

The NGO Educational Trust formed a partnership with the GWCT to bring the programme to life for schools. Nicola Sutton created both lesson plans and workbooks tailored to meet the requirements of the English national curriculum.

Nicola has also created an online blog site for schools to interact with the project at http://woodcockwatch.weebly.com/about.html. Schools wishing to participate can contact Nicola directly at woodcockwatch@hotmail.com. She will be establishing weekly challenges/discussion topics for the participating schools to increase their knowledge of these fascinating migratory birds.

The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) have also taken Nicola’s work and adapted it for the Scottish curriculum at Second/Third Levels. Each lesson plan shows the CfE links and outcomes from the associated activities.

Inspire the children with this fabulous material by incorporating this project into your classrooms in the new school year.

The RHET version materials are now available on the NGO Educational Trust and also the Times Educational Supplement (www.tes.co.uk) websites.
